Taking instructions from her clients, Rachel from Rachel Mayhew Architect, designed this functional extension. “The clients brief for this project was to produce an art studio which incorporated an upstairs sitting room and private first floor terrace, with views to their tennis court. The location is in a beautiful area and as such, the grounds are overlooked by local walks, the clients wanted somewhere they could relax outside while retaining privacy.

So why choose VELFAC?

We wanted to achieve as clear a view to the tennis court as possible, so were looking for a corner window that was unobstructed by framing. We also wanted a glazing system with light, simple minimal framing for the shaped triangular glass infill at the gable. VELFAC have purpose made glass corner windows with no frame and can also make custom-made triangular windows in a slim profile to match, so ticked all the boxes.

Working with ADW

“As the architect my dealings with ADW have always been excellent. I visited their showroom to understand the product options and fitting details and they were very careful in making sure that the manufactured bespoke windows fitted the project exactly, with several shop drawings to ensure everything was correct. They also assisted with specifying the correct product. Initially the clients were a bit unsure about the friction stay detail on the casement doors only allowing a 90-degree opening and that the doors can only be secured from the inside due to not having external ironmongery. During discussions with ADW they demonstrated another option – a double entrance door. This option can open 180-degrees and can be secured from outside. This option however has a different profile and we therefore opted for the simplistic design of the casement door option with egress only ”
